The topic of solar cooling is becoming increasingly important. Temperatures are continuously rising across Europe, and there is a growing need for alternative technologies to replace conventional air conditioning systems, which consume large amounts of electricity.

In the Zeosol project, we are pursuing this approach together with several long-standing, experienced partners.

In this EU project, an innovative Seasonal Thermal Energy Storage (STES) unit is being developed, featuring a novel storage material and a creative configuration. The aim is to harvest and store the abundant solar energy available in summer and shift its use to the less sunny and colder winter months.

Within this project, AKOTEC is developing an innovative fluid absorber tube as a key component of the system.

Solar-Biomass Reversible Energy System for Covering the Majority of a Building’s Energy Demand

AKOTEC/KIT: Development of a TEG Collector
In cooperation with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), AKOTEC is developing a TEG (thermoelectric generator) collector. By integrating TEG technology into solar collectors, it becomes possible to generate electricity directly from heat.

Objective of the EU Project:
The aim is to develop a flexible, building-integrated energy system based on renewable energy sources to cover the entire energy demand for heating, cooling, and electricity. The system will combine solar, ambient, and biomass energy using innovative technologies. With a heat pump-based configuration, this approach enables cost-effective coverage of a building’s complete energy needs.

The HP-BIG project focuses on improving our MEGA Collector and optimizing the overall system. The project runs for a duration of 36 months and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

Our contribution to the project centers on reducing costs in the production of the MEGA Collector and developing solutions to prevent air pockets during the filling process of the systems.

FroWaSo – Frost Protection for a Water-Based Thermal Solar System

The use of large-scale thermal solar systems has significantly increased in recent years. Market-standard frost protection for such systems is typically achieved using a water/glycol mixture.

As part of the FroWaSo project, AKOTEC, in cooperation with the German Federal Environmental Foundation (Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt), investigated alternative frost protection systems. The goal was to develop cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions to replace conventional water/glycol mixtures.
