Through the Federal Funding for Efficient Buildings (BEG), the German government offers generous subsidies for solar thermal systems with the aim of improving building energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energy in both residential and non-residential buildings. The focus is on renovating and constructing energy-efficient buildings.
Homeowners who choose a solar thermal system for hot water and/or heating support can benefit from a base subsidy of 30%. Owner-occupiers may also qualify for an additional income bonus of 30%. This bonus is available to households with a taxable annual income of up to 40,000 euros.
The BEG program is managed by BAFA (for individual measures) and KfW (for comprehensive renovations and new buildings). Eligible costs include not only materials directly related to energy-efficient upgrades, but also professional installation, system commissioning, and necessary related measures.
