Thermomax was known for decades for developing and producing high quality heatpipe evacuated tube collectors. The MS 20/30 or the Memotron collector, for example, were sold worldwide. Until 2007, the family-owned company distributed full vacuum tube collectors of the Astron series to Elco, which were sold throughout EuropeThermomax stopped producing evacuated tube collectors in 2007. Nonetheless, evacuated tube collectors manufactured by Thermomax and sold by Elco can still be found on many roofs around the world. For the most part, the vacuum tubes still function perfectly. The increasing frequency and intensity of storms around the world may lead to damage to evacuated tube collectors.
TMO and TMA tubes are very similar at first glance. However, there are some characteristics that distinguish the two types of heatpipes. If a rigid collar is present between the glass tube and the condenser head, it is a wet-bonded TMO tube. This characteristic can only be seen after the tube has been removed.
However, if the solar system is still on the roof, you can also determine which tube you need based on a characteristic feature. Even from a few meters away, the collector box can be easily recognized. Collectors with TMO tubes usually have a square, black collector box.
