AKOTEC turns 15 years old this year. To commemorate this occasion, we've delved into our memory box and selected a highlight from our journey for each year. Our 15 years have been characterized by ups and downs, moments of joy and sorrow, and countless other beautiful nuances in between. We've achieved personal and business milestones and each time, we've had the opportunity to surpass ourselves. Feel free to take a look at our AKOTEC timeline and join us on a journey into the past.
Our production began at Grundmühlenweg 3 in Angermünde, where we started with five dedicated employees.
In this facility, not only was production taking place, but intensive work on advancements was also underway. Additionally, our office found its place here. The journey began with the manufacturing of the OEM Vario df collector, a milestone in our history. Initially, our offerings were exclusively geared towards OEM customers for whom we developed tailored solutions.
We introduced the heat-pipe collector to the market, a groundbreaking product in our evolutionary story.
This collector is based on an entirely new tube technology, the so-called "heat pipe" tube, developed specifically for this purpose. We not only adapted and optimized the tube but the entire collector accordingly. The result is a collector that is not only considerably easier to maintain than its predecessors but also highly flexible for various applications. With this innovation, we're once again setting standards in the solar thermal industry and eagerly look forward to supporting our customers with this high-quality product.
We vividly remember the moment when our first 40-foot container containing a total of 96 full vacuum tube collectors and 2200 vacuum tubes, along with accessories, was shipped to the United States.
It was a logistical challenge that we mastered in just under two hours, and then the long sea journey began. We take pride in saying that everything went well, and our products arrived safely and intact in the USA. This was a significant milestone for our company, highlighting the demand for our products not only locally but also internationally.
Our first participation in the international solar exhibition, Intersolar in Munich, was an exciting event for us.
There, we had the opportunity to showcase our Inflecs-Pro system, an in-roof reflector system for our full vacuum tube collectors. The fair provided the perfect platform to present our product portfolio to a broad audience and gain valuable insights into the latest developments in the solar industry. During the event, we established many new connections and engaged in interesting and insightful conversations. This experience expanded our understanding of our customers' needs and requirements, motivating us to continuously work on innovative solutions for solar thermal technology.
Directly from the plane after Intersolar in Mumbai, India, we made our way to the Brandenburg Future Prize award ceremony.
This was a very special moment for us as it was our first award and a well-deserved recognition of our years of hard work. We were and still are overwhelmed with pride regarding how far we have come and how much our team has achieved. The Brandenburg Future Prize was an affirmation of our efforts to develop innovative solutions in the field of solar technology and make a positive contribution to the environment and sustainable energy production. This award continues to motivate us to advance on our path and invest even more in the future of renewable energy.
The Enertec fair in Leipzig was another exciting and thrilling event for us. During this fair, we had the opportunity to meet many of our loyal customers from southern Germany in person and engage in interesting conversations.
These fair visits are always a great opportunity for us to see our existing customers, better understand their needs, and simultaneously establish new contacts. We value the opportunity to present our product portfolio and share our expertise in the field of renewable energy. The Enertec fair once again emphasized how important personal contact with our customers and partners is.
We are proud to announce the signing of a cooperation agreement with FH Stralsund. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time that a company from Uckermark has entered into such an agreement with a university.
Our shared objective in this collaboration is to attract well-educated professionals to the Uckermark region. At the same time, we aim to align education and research more closely with the actual needs and practical challenges of our region. This cooperation will enable us to educate qualified talents while simultaneously developing innovative solutions to meet the requirements of our community.
At Intersolar in Munich, we had the exciting opportunity to present our latest innovation, the STC, which stands for Single Tube Collector. This collector represents a groundbreaking development for our company.
The STC consists of a full vacuum tube and a manifold tube, working together to form a high-performance collector unit. These two components are the essential building blocks that make the STC an efficient and powerful solar thermal collector. Through this presentation at the fair, we were able to reaffirm our commitment to innovation and quality in the solar thermal industry.
We had the excellent opportunity to visit a potential customer in Austria and introduce our impressive MEGA collector.
For this visit, we brought a specially crafted compact model of our typically large MEGA collector, which usually has a size of 2x6 meters. This journey took us south to Austria, where we showcased our innovative product and explained the advantages of the MEGA collector.
We are always on the lookout for new opportunities to expand our markets, and we gladly make use of the services offered by various Chambers of Commerce and Industry (AHKs). In October, we had the opportunity to participate in an AHK event in Lisbon, Portugal.
This journey allowed us to showcase our offerings to a professional audience and subsequently visit potential stakeholders directly. The trip to Portugal was highly successful and provided us with valuable opportunities for business expansion.
It's hard to believe, but we have already reached our 10-year anniversary at AKOTEC – a reason to celebrate! Preparations for our anniversary are already in full swing, and in October, the time will finally come.
These 10 years have been full of developments and progress for AKOTEC, and it's time to take the next step. Therefore, we have decided to appoint Katrin Sprenger as Managing Director. This is an exciting milestone in our company's history, and we look forward to continuing our success story together.
We are proud to have won the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award with our dedication and innovations. This award was presented to us for the development of a Large Thermal Collector for CO2-free solar heat feed-in into local and district heating networks.
The use of the MEGA collector enables the avoidance of expensive and time-consuming piping of solar fields, facilitating a sustainable and efficient use of solar energy. In total, 206 companies, organizations, and start-ups applied for the Berlin Brandenburg Innovation Award, and we are pleased that our work was among the ten outstanding submissions nominated by the jury for this prestigious award. This recognition reflects our efforts and our team's commitment to innovative solutions in the field of renewable energy.
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the contract for the Eugen Kienbaum natural gas plant, marking a significant milestone for us.
This contract includes the construction of a large-scale solar thermal system for the largest process heat system in Germany, the gas pressure regulating plant of the Eugen natural gas pipeline in Kienbaum. To accomplish this ambitious project, we will manufacture a total of 165 MEGA collector segments, which will be assembled on-site into a large collector. These collectors, covering an area of 4000 square meters, will supply the Kienbaum facility with green energy. This is further evidence of our expertise in solar thermal technology and our commitment to sustainable energy solutions. We are proud to contribute to the use of renewable energy in such a significant facility.
We have undertaken a comprehensive renewal of our company building to emphasize our commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
The office building has been energetically renovated and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including both a photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal system. As a visible symbol of our identity and commitment, we have also added the AKOTEC logo to the building's façade. This enables every visitor to recognize from a distance that they are in the right place to discover our high-quality solar thermal and energy solutions.
Following a careful and purposeful transition period, we bid farewell to Reinhold Weiser from the management of AKOTEC with gratitude and appreciation.
This transition aligns with the announcement made three years ago and represents an important step in our company's development. We are proud of his long-standing contributions
and dedication. Leadership of AKOTEC will now be assumed by Katrin Sprenger as Managing Director, supported by an experienced management team comprising Sandy Hasenbein, Jan
Köhler, and Marcel Ganske. Together, they will shape and drive our company's future. We are confident that this change will ensure continuity and growth for our organization. We
thank Reinhold Weiser for his dedication and warmly welcome the new leadership team.
December: In December, we were deeply saddened by painful news: Our founder, former Managing Director, mentor, partner, and friend, Reinhold Weiser, passed away after a
brief, severe illness. His sudden loss leaves a significant void in our company and in our hearts. We honor his memory with immense gratitude for his visionary leadership and
tireless dedication to AKOTEC. His legacy will live on in our work and our pursuit of excellence.
We are delighted to announce the completion of the expansion of our production hall. This expansion includes an additional 252 square meters added to our existing production facility.
The reason for this expansion is our consistently high order volume, which requires more space for production and storage of our finished products. This expansion also allows us to better support our growing workforce by providing improved working conditions. We take pride in our continuous growth and our ability to expand our capacity to meet the needs of our customers.
